Informations générales
White spotting coat colour genotypes affect the development of melanocytes. Melanocytes produce melanin which is a dark pigment responsible for skin colour. Splashed white (SW) is a white spotting coat colour phenotype in horses characterised by loss of pigment.
Caractéristiques cliniques
SW horses are often characterised by a large broad blaze, white markings on the legs, variable white spotting on the belly and blue eyes. Furthermore SW horses are sometimes deaf.
