A recessive mutation to the keratin gene KRT71 is responsible for the growth of a curly rather than straight coat in certain dogs. The variant analysed in this test, designated as c^2, is found in breeds such as the Bichon Frise, Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Curly Coated Retriever and Lagotto Romagnolo. A closely related variant, designated as c^1, is found in the Portuguese Water Dog.
Caractéristiques cliniques
Affected dogs will have curly instead of straight hairs.
