Piebald – the presence of white spots or splotches on the coat – is caused by a mutation to the MITF gene, known commonly as the S-Locus (‘Spotting’ locus). The mutation is dominant, and a dog carrying at least one copy of the mutant allele will show some degree of white spotting.
Caractéristiques cliniques
Absence/reduction of melanocytes results in various degrees of white spotting, including tiny white spots, large white spots and even complete white animals in for example the boxer.
