Informations générales

Ridge Predisposition, the distinctive spinal ridge characteristic of the Rhodesian and Thai Ridgeback breeds is the result of a complex mutation on chromosome 18. The mutation spans genes FGF3, FGF4, FGF19 and ORAOV1.
The predisposition for the ridge mutation is autosomal incomplete dominant. This means that while the ridge gene may be present, its expression can be partially suppressed in some cases.

Dogs that are homozygotes for the Ridge allele (R/R) seem to be more likely to also have an increased risk of dermoid sinus (DS), but the correlation is weak.

Caractéristiques cliniques

A back ridge consists of a segment of “reversed” coat following the line of the spine, beginning behind the shoulders and ending above the hips. The hairs on the ridge are oriented from back to front, making them raised with respect to the hairs of the surrounding coat.
