Informations générales
Nephropathy is the collective name for kidney diseases. This test analyses a variant of nephropathy, Autosomal Recessive Hereditary Nephropathy (ARHN) that occurs in the English Cocker Spaniel. The disorder is caused by a recessive mutation to the gene COL4A4. A similar variant also occurs in the English Springer Spaniel.
Caractéristiques cliniques
ARHN causes kidney failure in affected dogs. Symptoms of kidney failure can include weight loss, increased micturition, increased thirst, lethargy, loss of appetite, vomiting, bad breath and dehydration. Blood analysis can amongst others show increased levels of creatinine and SDMA. The onset is rapid, and symptoms may be severe enough to require euthanasia on humane grounds.
Additional Information
La néphropathie héréditaire peut également être causée par d’autres mutations.
