Informations générales
Ichthyosis is a disease of the skin, causing itch, hair loss and the formation of dry, flaky “scales”. It also leaves the skin vulnerable to yeast infection. This variant of the disorder, known as Autosomal Recessive Congenital Ichthyosis (ARCI) is found in the American Bulldog and American Bully. It is caused by a recessive mutation to the gene NIPAL4.
Caractéristiques cliniques
Affected puppies present within the first few weeks after birth with dishevelled coats, white or brown scaling and reddened skin with brown discolorations. The condition may worsen slightly as the dog grows to adulthood, and may be complicated by yeast infection by e.g. Malassezia yeast. Malassezia infection can in turn cause an unpleasant odour.
Additional Information
Ce test ne détecte qu’une seule mutation, donc un chien peut encore développer une ichtyose à partir d’autres mutations.
