Osteochondrodysplasia (OCD) is a form of skeletal dwarfism. Affected dogs have abnormally short legs but a normal sized body due to abnormal fetal skeletal maturation. This variant of the disorder is caused by a recessive mutation to the SLC13A1 gene.
Caractéristiques cliniques
Les petits touchés développent rapidement des membres postérieurs enlevés (évasés), des articulations élargies, des cages thoraciques aplatir, des os longs raccourcis et pliés et des pattes déformées qui ressemblent au pied bot. La raideur des articulations est très sévère chez les jeunes chiens affectés mais diminue avec l’âge. La mobilité reste limitée et l’arthrite est une conséquence commune.
