Informations générales
Primary Open Angle Glaucoma (POAG) is an eye disorder that builds up pressure in the eye and affects the nerves of the retina, causing pain and damaging vision. This variant of the disease occurs in the Norwegian Elkhound Grey and Black, and is caused by a recessive mutation to the gene ADAMTS10. A similar variant occurs in the Beagle.
Caractéristiques cliniques
POAG in the Norwegian Elkhound is usually diagnosed in middle-aged to elderly dogs, when they start to experience more significant vision impairment. Earlier signs can include the formation of cataracts, impaired vision and increased pressure inside the eye, which can be measured at the veterinary clinic.
